AFTER EXAMINING TWO VINTAGE CODPIECES --ONE OF WHICH IS BELIEVED TO DATE TO 1977 - 1979 ACCORDING TO THE BERMAN & NATHANS 'SET TAG,' IT BECAME APPARENT THAT AN SYNTHETIC WOVEN CLOTH WAS USED AS THE BASE. UNFORTUNATELY, WE EXPERIMENTED WITH ABOUT A DOZEN SIMILAR MATERIALS AND FOUND THAT IT WAS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLICATE THE SAME EXACT LOOK USING THE SAME MATERIALS. MUCH OF WHAT MAKES THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK AND RETURN OF THE JEDI DARTH VADER CODPIECE SO UNIQUE IS A COMBINATION OF THE GRADE/TYPE OF LEATHER, THE NATURAL FOLDS AND WRINKLES IN THE LEATHER, AND THE "MANUAL RESHAPING" WHICH CONTINUED TO DISTORT THE SHAPE AFTER IT WAS MADE. ..............YET, USING SEVERAL PROPRIETARY TECHNIQUES WE DEVELOPED OVER MANY ATTEMPTS , WE FEEL PRETTY CONFIDENT THAT WE HAVE MANAGED TO ACHIEVE AN EXTREMELY ACCURATE REPLICA.....AND WE HAVE AND WILL CONTINUE TO UPGRADE THIS PIECE TO MAKE IT EVEN MORE ACCURATE.
